Professional Experience

Brian Haney is an accomplished engineering professional with a strong technical background, extensive experience and a deep understanding of the electrical utility industry. Mr. Haney has over 33 years of experience in transmission system planning, operations, and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance. Mr. Haney has experience interfacing with regulators, independent power producers, and publicly owned utilities. Mr. Haney joined Utility System Efficiencies, Inc. (USE) in 2001. At USE, Mr. Haney has completed a wide range of projects such as System Impact Studies, power flow analysis, dynamic analysis, magnetic fields analysis, and NERC reliability compliance.

While employed at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for 14 years, Mr. Haney held various positions. He was responsible for training and supervision of the area planners for the coastal areas of California, which included the San Jose and Marin County during the 1990’s. As the Fresno and Bakersfield Area Planner Mr. Haney performed power flow and stability studies to accommodate aqueduct pump loads and the Helms pumped-storage facility. During the Metcalf Energy Center Project Mr. Haney was the supervisor for the San Jose area and provided input on various interconnection alternatives. Mr. Haney participated in the development of methodologies for losses, congestion management, ancillary services and market power studies as part of California’s electric utility restructuring. Mr. Haney was a key player in a team that developed a new process for performing area assessments of the transmission system in a deregulated environment.

Mr. Haney worked for Boston Edison Company for one year. As a Distribution Planner, he developed a master plan for the upgrade of the distribution system in one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods to accommodate rapid gentrification.
